Early Dismissal - Tuesday, February 9, 2010

District 118 Update

Pawprint "Hello, this is Dr. Coles, Superintendent of Schools for Wauconda School District 118. Due to the inclement weather, Wauconda High School students will be dismissed early today at 1:45 p.m. Students who attend Wauconda Middle School and Matthews Middle School will be dismissed early at 2:30 p.m. The reason for these early dismissals is to ensure that the school buses are ready to transport our elementary students from Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown School and Cotton Creek School at their regular dismissal time of 3:40 p.m. Also, please know that all afternoon Kindergarten, WEE Kids and Early Childhood classes at Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown School and Cotton Creek School have been cancelled. Finally, please know that all after school activities at Wauconda High School, Wauconda Middle School and Matthews Middle School have been cancelled for today. Thank you."

Pawprint Welcome from the Superintendent
Pawprint Kindergarten Pre-Registration: Children living within the school boudaries of Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown School, and Cotton Creek School should pre-register at their home school on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. If you are unsure which school is your home school, please refer to the District School Boundary Map. For more information, please refer to the attached flyers in English and Spanish.

Show Them What You KnowShow Them What You Know - Parents, Educators, and Community Members as Partners in Education: The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards. Students in grade 11, take the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE), which includes a test of the Illinois Learning Standards for Grade 11, the WorkKeys examination, and the ACT. Pawprint Helping Your Child to Read: A parent workshop designed for parents of children in grades kindergarten through second grade will be presented by District 118 Reading Specialists and the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. Pawprint Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce Expo 2010: Over seventy area businesses and organizations, including sport sign-ups and American Legion Craft Show. Pawprint Studio 118, the District Art Show will be held at the Wauconda Area Public Library, February 13th - March 22nd. The Wauconda Area Public Library will host the Awards Ceremonies for the district schools on the following nights:

  • 2/16/10 - Cotton Creek School at 6:30 pm and Matthews Middle School at 7:30 pm;
  • 2/17/10 - Robert Crown School at 6:30 pm and Wauconda Middle School at 7:30 pm;
  • 2/18/10 - Wauconda Grade School at 6:30 pm and Wauconda High School at 7:30 pm.
Pawprint School Closings and Early Dismissals: For information concerning the district procedures for emergency early dismissal or school closings due to severe winter weather, please check our School Closings webpage.

Pawprint 2009 School Report Cards: All school districts according to Public Act 84-126 are required to disseminate individual building State Report Card Data.  To save printing and postage costs, school districts are allowed to disseminate this information on their websites. Individuals are free to print any of our State Report Cards from our website or may contact a school directly to pick up a copy.

Pawprint Updated Guidelines for Pandemic H1N1 Influenza have been issued by the Lake County Health Department. Please click here to view the guidelines. The Lake County Health Department is preparing to open H1N1 flu vaccination clinics at five sites, including hosting a clinic at Wauconda High School. For information concerning locations, dates, and times, please refer to the attached flyer. Parents, the Superintendent's letter is available online in English and Spanish.

Pawprint Updated Preschool Screening Flyer: Wauconda CUSD 118 offers screening to all preschoolers aged 3-5 years who live within the district boundaries. For a list of screening dates for the 2009-2010 school year and contact information, please check our flyer in English and Spanish.

Pawprint District 118 Bands: The District 118 Band Website is online. It will be updated frequently with new information regarding our program and Beginning Band for the upcoming school year.
